The Meaning of “Wandering Ghost”

During a visit to my hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico, I have been pondering the topics of identity, lifestyle, and belonging. This sojourn has led me to my first posting at Tales of a Wandering Ghost.

I use the phrase Wandering Ghost as a way to identify with a cultural condition that many European immigrants seem to have brought with them as they severed their ancestral ties with their Old World during an unprecedented migration to the Americas. The impact of what was essentially a tribal separation from their mostly European homelands meant that the descendants of these displaced immigrants now wander the world as cultural and spiritual ghosts who continue to haunt lands in search of peace and place.

I do not remember when or where I first heard of this spectral term, however, I feel that it provides a valuable perspective to frame my journey as a cultural nomad who is engaged in a lifelong search for greater harmony and to forge an identity within places where my spirit can roam free and feel love and belonging.

This blog is intended as a friendly place to recount adventures, observations, learnings, and travels. It is also a place where I can share language learning tips and thoughts about translations of classical and modern Asian texts and contexts from my personal perspective. From time to time, I may include multi-part series on anthropology, linguistics and random interjections of frivolity.

Please enjoy!
